The name comes from a typo—a happy accident in a 1987 manual for a forgotten word processor called the Amstrad ZTAL 9000 . The manual instructed users to hit the "Ztal Tab" to reset the cursor to a "neutral datum." In reality, the key was just a standard Tab.
