George looked at the calculator. Then at Sheldon. Then he took a long drink of beer and said nothing.

George took a long sip. “It’s seven-fifteen, Sheldon.”

The next day, Sheldon walked into school carrying the HP-35 in a custom foam-lined case he had constructed from a shoebox and dish sponges. He found Jeremy at the water fountain.

“I don’t need a lecture at Rice,” Sheldon said, holding up the calculator. “I have a 1972 HP-35. It has a 56-byte programmability limit, but that’s more than enough to calculate the trajectory of your academic downfall.” George looked at the calculator

“So beat him,” Missy said simply.

She patted his head. “Then cheat.”

Because sometimes, in the Cooper household, that was the closest thing to a victory anyone was going to get.
