There’s something about watching the Season 2 premiere (“What Lies Beneath”) in standard def that brings back Smallville-era vibes. The softer edges, the slightly muted colors – it actually makes the Kent farm feel warmer and the suit’s texture pop in a different way. It’s like watching a lost episode from 2004… but with 2022-level writing and character depth.

Surprisingly enjoyable. Plus, the episode itself is rock solid – introducing Natalie’s place in the family, Clark’s growing concern over his powers, and that chilling final scene in the mines. Before you scroll past, hear me out

That said – No. You’ll miss the stunning VFX of the mineshaft fight and the gorgeous cinematography of Smallville, KS.
