Disguised as a nun, Phoenix steals the book from the antique shop. Paddington happens to be nearby and chases the thief. In the confusion, a witness sees Paddington holding the book and assumes he is the thief. Police arrive, and despite the Browns’ pleas, the bumbling Inspector (played by a returning Peter Capaldi) arrests Paddington.

Phoenix Buchanan, now in prison, is forced to perform his one-man show for the inmates. McGinty and the other prisoners give him a standing ovation, demanding an encore. Paddington writes a letter to Aunt Lucy (voiced by Imelda Staunton) for her 100th birthday. He visits Mr. Gruber’s antique shop to find her a gift. Gruber shows him a one-of-a-kind antique pop-up book depicting 1950s London landmarks. Paddington is enchanted and decides to buy it for Aunt Lucy, as she always dreamed of seeing London but never could. The book is priced at a steep £3,000.

Finally, the train approaches a broken bridge. Paddington saves Phoenix from falling into the gorge, and the Browns pull them both to safety. Phoenix is arrested. As the police take him away, he performs a flamboyant musical number in his cell ("It’s a Jungle Out There"), showing off his various disguises.
