While a casual listener hears a beautiful morning hymn to a mother goddess, the scholar hears the synthesis of Advaita Vedanta (non-dualism) and Tantric ritualism. The lyrics refuse to let the Goddess remain a statue in Kanchipuram; they drag her into the blood, breath, and bone of the singer.
